After a longer than expected sojourn with the gracious Brinkley's we were encouraged to sever the umbilical by attending the Four wheel Drive Associations Meet at Dowerin. Not quite able to cut all ties straight away we set off at lunch time with the Brinkley's 'Hilton' camper in tow. (Just trying to help them arrive before midnight :)
Met Guy and Wendy near the entrance and they showed us to their chosen camping area. Not many people had arrived so there was plenty of choice. Set about trying to remember how to set up our 'Best Western'. Just a few months living under a roof and we had forgotten our routine. The Holbrook's, senior and junior, were next and had their tents up in no time.
It wasn't long before all the men started helping Malcolm erect The Hilton. Wendy and I watched from the sidelines, in the shade. Being such a superior camper, the annex and awning took a bit phiffing and phaffing to get the right poles in the right places, but they soon had it looking shipshape. Think a certain couple were pleasantly surprised to arrive after dark to find the work had been done. 'After Dark' being the key phrase here, the wonky annex wasn't too obvious.
Saturday morning we watched a few of the more serious off roaders test out their locked and lifted vehicles on the specially made course before heading off on an organised tour of the wheat belt area. A well done trip, but I reckon that the club that Alastair the trip leader belongs to might need a few tips on entertaining. By 1:00 the stomachs in the Brinkley Car(all 4 of them), we're growling so loud I thought we had a tiger in the back. I'm glad the Mitsubishi club recognises that the morno's and lunch stops are as important as the sightseeing and driving.
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole weekend, and hope it becomes an annual event, just a few tweaks needed here and there.
On another note, John senior informed me we had been renamed the Homeless Harrison's seeing as we have rented out our house and have now started our LOOOONG trip around OZ. Love the name, but it is too long to type out, so I have shortened it to Harrison Hobo's. Will be sending a short "Where are they now?" Blog for the monthly meeting. Also will upload photos on my Facebook if any of you are interested. Would love to hear from any of you so all emails are welcome. Will be trying to keep my blog updated this time, so look it up if interested, just email me for the address.

Day 4 - DAY ONE - on our own!
Monday, 28 October 2013
Woke up Monday morning in the paddock on our own. Only 24 hours ago we had been surrounded by at least 100 other campers. The journey has started. How exciting but Sad to say goodbye to our dear friends.
The fuel station in Dowerin was out of diesel - what a surprise :)
Found our first rail access track, with access to it as well. No signs to stop us either. Followed it into Koolyanobbing then followed directions to Aurora and Helena Ranges. Very attractive. Tried to find the track that led over the ridge, but after several dead ends came to the conclusion that the only other track was the way, but it had been washed out and was too narrow in places. Lots of evidence of big rains..

Day 5 - Aurora Ranges to Ularring Rock
Tuesday, 29 October 2013
First morning in the bush, yay, wonderful. Not many birds, the flies must have eaten them.
We were a bit disappointd we hadn't been able to drive over the ranges but so we drove out to the main track north of the ranges and headed east.
Varying terrain, missed the opportunity to collect some flowers thinking they would continue for a while, and it seemed too early to stop. Didn't see them again, learnt my lesson.
A few interesting granite outcrops, a clear pool. Followed a camel's track for quite a while. Curara soak had a dry walled well, very similar to the one we had seen on our drive out from Dowerin built by hunt.
A disaster at lunchtime. My homeless hobo's Magnum wasn't properly frozen and second bite it hit the dust!!!! Talk about a Magnum Moment, heh heh.
A pleasant day's drive, we turned north at the Davyhurst Maline Rd (track) then right towards Ularring rock. We have been here before, on Glen's Golden Pipeline Trip, HH described it to me, but I didn't remember it until we got here. Spent a bit of time trying to find a level spot for the night, quite hard when you want shade and no ants as well.
Had the new extendable aerial up on the top of the rock, but no coverage here. Fun trying it out.
