Day 6 - Ularring rock
Wednesday, 30 October 2013
A nice walk up to the cairn in the morning. Wonder who placed the first rock and when?
Into the abandoned township of Davyhurst. Nothing there, amazing. The cemetery, children didn't live long then. Quick look at Government dam before heading towards Ora Banda, too early! didn't open until Midday. Tried to follow the Black Flag track into Kalgoorlie, but the mine/haul roads are everywhere and were eventually followed a supervisor back to the main road. Not quite sure if we were 'escorted' out of the area after HH told the man we were 'confused' by all the mining tracks. Think that might have been a polite furphy.
Anyway we got into Kal for fuel! last minute groceries when I was 'escorted' off to the Exchange Hotel for lunch. Wondered why HH was to keen. Never been served by a skimpy barmaid before. Tattoos, g string and unusual small top serving my burger? This is a draw card? Really? Had to chuckle.
East out of town, this is it, leaving behind the big smoke, woo hoo, Bulong Rd, Kurnalpi Pinjin Rd. Crossed a few haul roads. Checked the Pinjin station for the right track as they had been re arranged yet again by the mines!. Camped at kirgella stn (ruins) Lords Camp. Love these places. Nostalgia. Quite a few relics lying around, bottles, old tin homestead with mantelpiece, billy can, wooden trailer with old wooden wheels. When, where, how, why, what??? Etc. love to know the history of the people who battled it out here.
