Day 22 - Adelaide
Friday, 15 November 2013
For once right time, right location jelled. After dropping the car off, we headed off, with a courtesy car, to the Adelaide Hills to meet up with my Mum's brother David and wife Ayleen. I had not seen them since my parents left the UK to live in the Middle East in 1965 when I was 6. They had emigrated to Australia in 1966.
What a wonderful day we had, made even better when we found out it was David's 78th birthday. I hope it was a nice treat for him as well. Made to feel very welcome and Ayleen cooked up a lovely roast beef (with Yorkshire puds) for lunch. Ayleens elder sister popped in as well. Lots of reminiscing done of mum and childhood life. Loved it. All too soon time was up as we had to pick up the car before the garage closed.
The garage is NE of Adelaide and Lange and Inara live very south of the city, so a bit concerned about traffic heading down at that time of day, but it turned out just fine. We're met with such a lovely welcome from people we feel we have known for ever. Can't believe it is a year since we were last here. We had met them whilst travelling the Hay river track through the Simpson Desert last and just hit it off. We took them up on their kind offer of hospitality if we passed through Adelaide on our return to WA.
