Clare Valley

Day 21 - Clare Valley

Thursday, 14 November 2013

Had been recommended Seven Hills was worth a visit so we decided to keep our "tastings" to the Clare region and skip the Barossa (another trip). Quick detour to Mintaro, where there ins an old slate quarry, continually in operation since the mid 1800s. This must be the most 'complete' historic village and well worth the detour. Not much access to see the slate quarry without signing in so drove on to the monastery/vineyard at Sevenhills.

This place is worth a visit just for the old monastery and history/museum and old cellar. HH was delighted to find a wine that ticked all the boxes and promptly bought some to share with our friends, Inara and Lange in Adelaide.

Was quite entertained watching a white cat curled up in the centre of a 'nest' - a straw lined half wine barrel. HH didn't believe it was alive at first until it opened an eye and looked up at us as if to say "can't you two keep the noise down"?

On to Annie's Lane. I am told by HH they also do a BIG Red. He was right so more treats purchased before we headed off to find a camp spot for the night. Dalkeith caravan park was a bit basic but it met the need of being close to the Isuzu garage for the morning.

It turned out to be one of the coldest nights we have experienced whilst camping. Had to get dressed under the covers in the morning!
