Day 64 - Fortescue to Bagdad
Tuesday, 1 April 2014
Just realised I have got my days and photos muddled. Guess that is what happens when you get behind. Oh well, it is all there, maybe just in a slightly different order:). The perfectionist in my camp will never know, because he never reads it, only nags me to do it.
After the overheating at the Tasman arch put my hot top back on, we cranked up the A/C and headed off towards Bagdad, where we were staying the night with Kay and Chris, lovely people we had met at Evercreech.
We stopped at Dunally just beside an op shop where I found a cotton T shirt, more appropriate for this unappropriate weather! Looked for lunch in Richmond. Quite an historic town, lots of character. Beautiful wooden boats for hire, HH looked like he should have been dressed as toad from Wind in the Willows when he demonstrated how to row. Also home to Australia's oldest bridge 1823 (where would we be without our convict labour?)
We found Kay and Chris's place, after asking for directions from the post mistress. It was not too far, but no coverage, so no way of calling if we got lost. They live in on a patch of paradise, a hill of forest, and a couple of stone and wood houses, and various sheds. Plenty of room to park up next to what turned out to be their art studio, where they had lived whilst building their house, and the larger house that they rent out to groups.
We had sundowners on their back porch followed by a lovely dinner, joined later by Kay's brother and wife. Superb hospitality, people I really wish we could socialise with more often.
