Lime Bay - Fortescue Bay

Day 63 - Lime Bay - Fortescue Bay

Monday, 31 March 2014

Off to Remarkable Cave. It truly was. We climbed over the walk way and down onto the sand to explore. The entrance is from the back of the cave where the roof has collapsed, then there are 2 entries from the ocean side. Would love to see it through the whole spectrum of high and low tides. Think we were there about mid way.

On to Fortescue Bay to camp, after the Cape Huay walk. Little did I know :) to say the walk description was 'vague' was an understatement. Four hours return, 4.4km one way!!! They forgot to mention anything about the 2083 steps each way. Ascending the first headland I was groaning, then at the top I saw the descent followed by another ascent over the next headland, but of course there was another one after that. Fortunately the views at the end were worth all the torture. Of course the torture (in the calves) two days later was worse. I was thrilled with the views at the end of the track. A small tree, looking like it had been topiaried, was unique along with the views back to Cape Raoul. Couldn't quite see over the edge so I had to crawl out and stick the camera over, brave for me. HH only commented why didn't I go further! We learnt the steps were a recent upgrade, you couldn't help but be impressed with the workmanship, everything being brought in by helicopter. We hadn't kept count of the steps, out, but we decided to on the way back, conferring with each other at 50 and adding a stone to my pocket at 100. Trousers slipping by the time we got back :)

Back at camp we got chatting to our camp neighbours. Put me to shame, closer to 70 than 60, they are both serious 'outdoor' adventurers, thinking nothing of 300km walks, or 1000km bike rides. Hmm, I can only admit to being a lazy bum. Nearly lost my dinner (prepped veges) to the currawongs, they are so cheeky, and the moment I turned my back were into the kitchen!
