BHB to Corinna

Day 19 - BHB to Corinna

Saturday, 15 February 2014

All good things come to an end, so with an overcast day we packed up and said our goodbyes.

HH took us on all the back roads to Hellyer Gorge, might have been there last week, but a different route:). Who should be there, along with a dozen bikers, but the two gentlemen we had met at Table Cape. They recognised our vehicle. Glen and Brendan from South Australia. Although not camping they set themselves up well for morno's with chairs, meths cooker (Tranjia?) chocolate biscuits etc. They are heading our way so will probably see them again.

On to Waratah. Interesting little historic town, and whilst looking at the waterfall the publican at the hotel behind us chalked up the day's special. Ten dollar roast! HH was off without even asking. Lovely place, Cook quite a character, you wouldn't want to upset her:). I had the largest burger, yummy. John and Ira had beaten us there.

A walk to Philosopher's falls was about 10km out of town, and although the description was 'downhill and lots of steps' after what I had eaten would have felt guilty If I hadn't done it. Pulled up next to a familiar car. Halfway down on a little bridge we met Glen and Brendan coming up. All downhill ending in 210 steps, phew, but no knee trouble anymore. This was a water race built and used for the tin mines in the area. Puffing and panting back up to the car park were amused to see Glen and Brendan all set up with cuppas holding little umbrellas, quite comical, reminded us of Morcombe and Wise. We hadn't noticed the rain as the forest is so dense.

Holding on to my stomach, as the road into Corinna winds around the mountains was glad to get out at Pieman River and of course who was there, Morcombe and Wise. They had just booked a cruise for tomorrow. We had been told this cruise was better than the ones out of Straughn, so we booked as well.

Headed back up the track to camp up for the night. Nice little clearing only 10 minutes away, the mozzies are ever so friendly. Neither of us hungry, so sufficed with a snack and by 7:00 it was sprinkling with rain. Oh well an early night. Trying to open the top canvas for a bit of light and ventilation, HH stepped on the car key, which had wedged in the step cupboard. Buggar, bent it to a right angle. Fortunately we knew where the spare was tucked away.

Sitting here now and the rain is a bit more than an sprinkle, and quite a bit of thunder. Scarey!
