Day 11 - Lorinna to Cradle Mtn
Friday, 7 February 2014
Up early to take up the offer of calling in to Stephan. What a wonderful morning we had looking around his piece of paradise. Very clever with wood, he had completely renovated their little cabin (oh I so want one) but it must have the same view looking over a lake. He had a boat shed with a beautiful wooden boat that he had restored. There were all sorts of bikes and a tractor, not a John Deere, if it was I would have asked to sit on it - currently No. 1 on my Wish List.
HH must have been so envious, imagine having a collection of sheds and workshops, all larger than the house. We had plenty in common, home brew, knives, axes, and spent a couple of hours over a cuppa sitting on his extended deck feeding the birds, and learning what tree is what.
We were given a sample of King Billy Pine and Huon Pine. King Billy very interesting! only in this part of Tassie.
Could have stayed all day chatting. Lovely drive out to Cradle Mtn, and booked into CP. Checked out the walks at the info centre, a bit confusing, so many to choose from.
Did the Dove Lake late afternoon. Only 6.5 km, knee would be able to manage that. It is lovely, and our first glimpse of this alpine, rain forest area. Walking along the boardwalk under the canopy of the beeches and pines, everything covered in moss is 'enchanting'. On the far side of the lake discovered there were quite a lot of steps up and over and down a hill, hmmm, I am getting very allergic to hills :)
Settled into the CP. Nice camp kitchen, reminded us of Canada. River Rock cabin style"
