Day 6 - Spirit of Tasmania
Sunday, 2 February 2014
Up early to get in the queue to board the ferry. Asked Mona and Emile to stay in bed and we would slip out quietly about 6:15am. Our delightful hosts weren't having any of it, and were up before us to bid farewell. Felt a bit choked up as we drove off, Mona giving Emile and hug on the drive, waving us farewell.
Very foggy, but not far to go. Getting close to Station Pier we realised we were well back in the queue, had to remind my HH it is not a race, we will get on board. Enjoyed being directed into a parking spot on G2. Have to remember that when we get off.
Found a place to sit and wait to depart. Took turns to explore the various decks and facilities. Once out of port we did it all again, finding things for breakfast, coffee etc. discovered we were travelling in the opposite direction to what I thought and then proceeded to get myself totally disorientated!!! Not long until the swell started and I discovered I no longer have sea legs. I practically grew up on a ship, what has happened, must be those chair lifts and HH taking me up steep inclines, it is messing with my head :). Unfortunately the crossing was probably one of the calmest, but I will be prepared for the return trip.
Wasn't long before I had to find a place to lie down and chill out. I wanted off. Later on HH found me and we had the lunch we had prepared, must have been the home grown Lebanese cucumber that settled my tummy and I felt a bit better. Realised I had encamped myself on the kids activity deck, so I got (instead of face painted) a frog on my arm and later we both made badges. Ha ha. The guy running it looking over at us and welcomed us to join. The Grumpy Old Devil and I Love sharks badges will be worn with pride.
Took a while to get through the bottle neck of quarantine and picking up gas bottles, and then finding somewhere to camp for the night but we got there.
Ended up at Almo reserve, Sw of Devonport and found a car already there. A couple of German girls with a bit of tyre trouble. Whilst I set up HH went over to help them out. Whilst chatting afterwards another family arrived, I was recognised as the one with the frog arm painting, yes they were on the ferry too. An Austrian family (3 children) on the road for a year, Cambodia , 6 months in OZ, very basic (yup even more basic than us). A nice camp circle to round off the evening.
