Day 17 - Stanley to Boat Harbour Beach
Thursday, 13 February 2014
Out of Stanley and checked out all the coastline to Wynyard. Peg's Beach boat ramp a nice looking camp ground, although the next part still Peg's beach, but no boat ramp, looked a bit dodgy, semi permanent by the look of it. Sister's beach a cute little fishing shack community and then explore the Cape Table Lighthouse. Such an interesting place, history and geology.
Surprised to see many fields of poppies. Stopping by a gate saw a GlaxoSmithKline logo, so it is pharmaceutical. Later learnt from a local that Tasmania is the worlds largest supplier for those pharmaceutical 'rogues' making morphine. Took the short walk along the headland and struck up an interesting conversation with two gentlemen doing a walking tour of Tassie.
Before we got to Wynyard, to restock (out of wine) we pulled in at Boat Harbour Beach. For me it was a WOW place. Amazingly it is a free camp area as well. Looked like it might get busy as they had a big outrigger canoe weekend happening. Found a young lad 'fostering' an orphaned pademelon, hard to get something cuter to cuddle.
Into Wynyard to restock then decided to go back to BHB. Pleased to find still space to get 'ocean front' position. Very nice neighbours all around, had a great evening. The little cafe, Harvest and Cater were very busy.
