Narawntapu

Day 8 - Narawntapu

Tuesday, 4 February 2014

A very cold night, but blue skies today, yippee. Off for a walk past a bird hide and up to Archers knob.

A nice easy stroll then a bit of a climb up to the Knob. Wonder if my knee will complain coming down. The views of the coast are stunning, golden beaches, mountainous horizon inland. Walked back along the beach. Strange to think we are probably opposite where we camped at Pearl Point. I wonder if any of the drift wood/trees here started life in the Victorian forests? It was a long walk all up, my pedometer reads 13,300 steps. Got to get the hips, knew and ankles used to this.

Back into camp for lunch. Still enjoying the Lebanese bread we got from Mona. Can't find it this fresh in WA.

Driving south we meandered through rolling hills, farmland, forests. So like Victoria. Have to admit it is not WOW scenery for me. We decided to be tourists when we saw the Ashgrove Cheese factory. Sampled everything and chose a Leicester type. Quite tangy.

Crossing a little bridge near Birralee we saw a picnic spot and stopped for a sticky beak. A few kids having a ball in the river. Got chatting to the mum, a local who, along with her husband, were keen fishermen. Had Malcolm keen to get his rod out - have to buy a fishing licence first.

Made camp at Brushy Lagoon. Someone had beaten us to the spot, but Sue turned out to be a delightful British traveller who we soon found had many interests in common.

During the night some Tassie Devils serenaded us, not the usual sound, HH reckoned it more like motorbikes revving up. Sue was in a hammock, hmm wondered if she was feeling 'vulnerable'?
