Day 14 - Milkshakes to Nelson
Monday, 10 February 2014
Said goodbye to the Ballarat 4x4 crew, took a walk through the Milkshakes forest! under giant tree ferns! very quiet then off again.
Lost more plantation forests to drive through, boring. Crossed a couple of rivers (Arthur and Frankland). Reminds us of Canada. Reached the west coast at Couta. Beautiful, York peninsula! SA, fish shack style.
Headed south, but not willing to drive on the beach down there, and the Balfour track was classed as hard in the book? HH had promised we wouldn't do 'hard' so we back tracked. Into sticky beak just north of Couta at Sarah Anne rocks. Beautiful little bay. A couple swimming. Another couple of locals sitting on the deck of their shack, we wandered over for a chat and two hours later we were still sat there. Who said Tasmanians weren't friendly. So far we couldn't have found nicer people.
Were recommended to park up for the night just a couple of hours north at Nelson. Found it and it instantly got our tick of approval.
Cheers. Amazed that the ocean here is still warmer than off the Victorian coast.
