Day 45 - Bruny South
Thursday, 13 March 2014
Into Adventure Bqy to wait for Mary and Herbie (friends of many years who live in Augusta) but on a flying visit to Tasmania. They found us sitting on a roadside bench, lapping up some sun. After a quick cup of tea, we went off looking for a short walk to look for birds. Both of them keen twitters (?) found a lovely spot at the Mavista Reserve, through the rain forest and a picnic spot for lunch afterwards.
So much to chatter about, but somehow with good friends, you just take up where you left off, probably only a couple of years since we had seen them.
Then up and over Bruny's tallest hill (570m) on a bit of a washed out track. The map calls it a C road (minor road). No an issue for us, but a bit rough on a car. Ha ha. Down to Cape Bruny Lighthouse. Views of beautiful bays and coastlines. Sun shining, birds singing, perfect. Were delightfully educated by Herbie who is very knowledgable about his birds and their songs and whilst he was calling out descriptions Mary was frantically scrolling through their Ebird book (same as ours). Very, very enjoyable.
But they had a ferry to catch so our goodbyes came too quickly.
We camped just north at Jetty Beach. Not too nice, bit crowded, but we found a level corner to tuck ourselves into. Had drinks with the couple nearby (whom we had seen at The Neck camp ground. They had an Active slide on, and always interesting to compare, learn from, swop stories etc.
