Day 32 - Weldborough to Little Musselroe Lagoon
Friday, 28 February 2014
A track in the book to complete. Closed gate at the beginning should have warned us, but it would have to be locked to stop HH. Again not 4x4, for a while anyway. But crossing the bridge, despite HH looking at it from every angle, dragging a few logs up out of the creek and even getting the steel rule out did not make it any more cross able. I sat in the car and waited until he had convinced himself our only option was to turn around. Eventually got to Gladstone and had lunch at a pleasant picnic/BBQ area. Tassie is really doing a very good job of making itself tourist friendly. Every one maintained and clean. A couple of gents pulled up to BBQ their lunch. They were Fossicking around the old tin mining areas. Learnt a bit about quartz (if there is/was tin, there will be quartz).
Up to the north east cape. Past a wind farm, chuff cuffs that make my heart pound when you get up close (so large). The beach and coastline beautiful but no camping. Retraced our steps and checked out Little Musselroe Bay, then Petal Point on the west side of the cape. East side won so we headed back and we set up right on the in let's edge. Tide right out, no water other than a tiny big toe deep trickle meandering through the middle. Lots of birds, LOTS of black swans. Just sat and watched the tide come in, swans getting closer.
