Ted's Beach - Hamilton

Day 53 - Ted's Beach - Hamilton

Friday, 21 March 2014

Think it rained all night! Not cold at all. Breakfast and coffee over in the lovely shelter, what a view over the lake about 5om away. Was surprised to see a little yabby crawling past. HH had picked it up and put it back in the lake before I could grab the camera. Poor thing, probably spent the whole night crawling up the hill from the lake !! :)

Turning off on to a track, which we soon discovered was a logging track, HH struck up a conversation over the radio with one of the trucks that overtook us. He was very helpful and recommended a good fishing spot. He even pulled over to have a natter and to show us where to turn off. Not a nice day for fishing (raining) unless you are really keen, and haven't got a crook back like HH. But as there was a block on the bridge as it was too worn for vehicles, it made it a no through, so would be a great place to camp/fish on our next trip.mmwe had to make do with just a lunch break.

Eventually came out by the Derwent, and HH had to drive over, just because he could, and turn around to come back. Looking for a possible camp site we passed a free camp area and checked it out. A few flat areas, but as it was still raining went on a bit further to check out Hamilton. Tiny little place so we decided to do the touristy bit and have a Devonshire tea in the old Glen Clyde coach house. It was also a studio, some beautiful wood pieces. I want it all. If I lived here I would end up surrounding myself with some of the most amazing wood.

After lining our tummies with scones we felt it verified popping into the other old building in the village, yup the pub. Roaring log fire,oh yes!! Soon got chatting to another couple of travellers, Bruce and Shelly, from 1770. They were camped up next door ($1 hot showers) and decided that would do us to. What an excuse to have another beer or two.

Discovered my boots still leak, walking through wet grass to cook dinner in the covered BBQ hut! Rained for hours again.
