St Columbia Falls to Weldborough Pub

Day 31 - St Columbia Falls to Weldborough Pub

Thursday, 27 February 2014

Sounded like we had slept in a plane, just beside the engines, same noise:).

When we eventually drove out, going back to the falls as the sun was in the right position for a better photo! We crossed the bridge to find a Road Closed barricade in front of us! No problem nudging past, we found out later they were starting some road works later.

Interesting history plaque about the Pub in the Paddock (in Pyengana). Had to chuckle when I read the local midwife led by example by having 15 children herself!! Drove on to check The Pub out. Arrived before midday and suggested we drove on a bit further to taste some cheese before the beer. The Pyengana Cheese Factory has been making cheese for 4 generations, very traditional, non homogenised, yay, why don't more people understand the importance of this. Sampled their wares, bought some and then headed back to the Pub in the Paddock. Don't understand why this pub is not in The Book! For $1 you can feed. Priscilla the Pig a bucket of beer slops. As she had looked very hung over in her sty we deprived ourselves of this entertainment. Lovely old building, wood bits etc, photos everywhere. Obviously popular with motor bike travellers. Charlie Boorman was through last year, and 'in town' again now.

Up to the Blue Tier forest Reserve for The Goblin Walk. Winding, winding, up and up. Past a few homesteads around Lottah. Unusual home built cabins. At the top shared a picnic table with another couple for morno's. Sue and Malcolm were very friendly and happy to share their 'story'. This walk was meant to show the revelation of the area after the tin mining 'destruction'. Hmmm.

Later on at another lookout crossed paths with Sue and Malcolm yet again. Hoped to get to the Weldborough Hotel for lunch. This hotel in The Pub Book, it show cases Tasmania's micro breweries. Eventually got there half an hour after the kitchen closed for lunch, but everyone was happy if I made my own and took it through to their garden with some of their beers :)

Enjoying this we were joined again by Sue and Malcolm. We all decided to camp here (hot showers) and have dinner together at the hotel. Yet again, we have found delightful and interesting people. Thoroughly enjoyed their company and that of Tom, who gave up his job in London to adventure the world on his bycle. What interesting stories he travelling through Oman and Armenia, just to mention a few. Wish we could have had more time together.
