Strauhan - Macquarie Heads

Day 57 - Strauhan - Macquarie Heads

Tuesday, 25 March 2014

A beautiful day, thank goodness, perfect for the cruise. We boarded up, found our seats, didn't have to wait long to be underway. It is quite a scenic waterway/countryside. Whilst I am not a cruise person, at least to see this in such beautiful light is great.

Whilst the skipper filled us in on all the what's what etc we were free to move about. Soon found ourselves up on the bridge, best view - up the top and up front. Hell's Gates aptly named, but today is an exceptionally calm day so we could go right out, doesn't happen too often. I have to admit I did enjoy this part. Incredible harbour and coast. Back into the sanctuary of the harbour (I think twice the size of Sydney harbour) we were educated about Tasmania's salmon farms. Despite what he said, I still have my doubts about the sustainability of it all. But it is much needed jobs. On to Sarah Island, predates port Arthur convict settlement. A great tour given by The Round Earth Comoany. Very entertaining and informative. All the bett because it was such a great day. Back on board for lunch. Salads, cold meats, salmon and cheese before a walk about at board walked bit of rainforest. Bit of a diddly squat rainforest, but i guess we have been spoilt with what we have seen.

Six hours later we disembarked and after a quick drive around the harbour headed out to Macquarie Heads to camp. Six dollars a night, in a lovely grassed clearing, a stones throw from the beach, and blue skies, my boxes are ticked :)
